Just hours before he died in a car accident, journalist Michael Hastings sent an email to friends and colleagues warning them to speak to an attorney if they were approached by federal
authorities. "Perhaps if the authorities arrive 'BuzzFeed GQ', er HQ, may be wise to immediately request legal counsel before any conversations or interviews about our news-gathering practices
or related journalism issues," he wrote in the email.
Hastings, a contributor to BuzzFeed and Rolling Stone, was apparently working on a big story at the time of his death. He was killed
in a car accident when he lost control of his car and crashed into a palm tree in Los Angeles last week.
