Attorney generals from Vermont and then Nebraska are trying to stop patent troll from demanding licensing fees from individuals that scan documents and then email them. The company was granted the patent for this very common procedure and is now threatening to sue people who make use of this practice. A law firm representing patent troll is demanding $1000 for anyone that scans a document and then emails it. HP has fought back against the company, claiming that they produced technology that enable this practice before patent troll was even granted a patent. This case could call into question how technology patents are granted.
