In a new
twist to the Web and mobile browser wars, Mozilla, the developer of the popular Firefox browser, is making a push into content development and has hired a former Madison Avenue insider to do
it.
Darren Herman, who stepped down as chief digital media officer of MDC Partners’ The Media Kitchen, has been named vice president-content services at Mozilla.
While Firefox is an also-ran to Google's Chrome and Microsoft's Internet Explorer, with less than a 20% share of the global browser marketplace, its focus is much more on personal user control and do-not-track features.
Herman, who was named one of OMMA's All Stars in 2011, was also involved in a number of digital ventures while at MDC, including the founding of trading desk Varick Media Management and KBS+ Ventures.
