The Email Privacy Act is gaining momentum in the House. The bill secured its 218th co-sponsor late on Tuesday, giving the act the majority backing that it needs to advance. "Having a majority of
house members supporting our bill shows House leadership that the bill would pass … if it was put on the house floor,” Kevin Yoder, one of the bill's sponsors told The Hill. The bill
would update the 1986 Electronic Communications Privacy Act, which currently allows law enforcement agencies to read emails that have been stored for 180 days without a warrant.
