In a bizarre twist, unhappy Los Angeles Uber drivers are threatening to strike with the backing of the teamsters, according to Bloomberg Businessweek. The drivers are demanding more transparency
around costs and fees, following the company’s refusal to help cover insurance premiums and various policy changes made without consulting drivers. The teamsters are throwing their considerable
organizational and financial weight behind the threatened strike, as they have already with cab drivers in Washington, D.C., and app-based drivers in Seattle. The Businessweek quoted a statement from
the company: “Uber partner drivers have a direct line into the Uber team, and we will continue to work with them to ensure their small businesses thrive.”
