Yahoo began sharing user data with the National Security Agency in 2008 after being threatened with daily fines of $250,000 a day for non-compliance. These new revelations came out of government
documents which were made public by the justice department last week. Tech companies had been criticized by citizens for sharing private user data, including email data, with the government when the
NSA's spying scandal first leaked. However since then, tech companies have been fighting back against government intervention and have been pushing for stricter privacy laws.
