Two senior senators have spoken out against the CIA's new email retention policy, in which the agency would delete most of its email records. Senator Patrick J. Leahy (D-Vermont) and Senator John Cornyn (R-Texas) said that the CIA's request to purge all emails except those of a select number of senior would make the agency less transparent. "We are concerned that this policy would undermine the ability of citizens to understand how their government works and hold it accountable," read a letter drafted by the two politicians. "In an era when critically important government activities and decisions are conducted via email, a plan to delete the majority of emails at any agency should raise great concern."
