A woman in the UK was scammed out of her entire savings by responding to a spam email. Vivian Gabb, who was in the middle of buying a house, thought that the email was from her lawyer. The spam message instructed Gabb to transfer about £50,000 ($78,000) as the down payment, which she did. Scammers had hacked into her account and knew about her pending transaction, and took advantage of that knowledge by pretending to be her lawyer.
