Maria Eagle, Labour’s new shadow culture secretary, has pledged to take the Conservatives to task on its “attack” on the BBC and will call on the government to push forward with
implementing the Leveson proposals on press regulation. Eagle, who had a brief stint as shadow defence secretary following a reshuffle in September after Jeremy Corbyn was
elected Labour leader, was something of a surprise appointment, announced in the early hours of Wednesday morning.
