'Glamour,' Facebook Partner For Town Halls, Giving A Voice To Young Women Voters

Glamour and Facebook have announced a partnership to launch a project dedicated to bringing attention to issues important to young women in the 2016 election.

The partnership will feature live events and original political content across all platforms, including print, digital, social and video, all revolving around issues pertinent to young women in the coming presidential election.

Last August, Glamour launched “The 51Million” politics vertical dedicated to highlighting issues important to the 51 million women under 45 who will be eligible to vote in this November's election, according to Cindi Leive, editor in chief of Glamour.

“Now, by partnering with Facebook... we can reach this audience where they live. There is simply no better way to have a political conversation today,” Leive stated.

Over the next eight months, Glamour and Facebook will hold a series of election-related town halls and discussions. At these events, political reporters and commentators will discuss issues like the economy, reproductive rights, national security and social justice, according to Politico.

Facebook will use data gathered from its social media platform to determine which topics receive the most attention.

The partnership will culminate in a “Women’s Media Town Hall” event in the fall, to be broadcast on Facebook Live.

The events will be held across the country - including New York, California, Florida and Ohio - as well as party conventions. At each event Glamour and Facebook will invite influential women to speak about election-related topics.

“This partnership will help encourage women of all ages and political persuasions to use their voice to help define the debate and make an impact in the 2016 election,” stated Erin Egan, vice president of U.S. public policy, Facebook.

The next few issues of Glamour will likely feature more political coverage and its digital and social channels will beef up election-related news as well.
