IPG's Golin Restructures, Tries 'CEO+' Approach

Interpublic’s Golin unit, which has been transforming itself from its public relations agency roots into more of an integrated marketing services shop with an emphasis on content marketing and measurement science, this morning announced a restructuring of its senior management team moving from an individual CEO to a “CEO team.”

The move, which the Golin spinmeister’s aptly dubbed “CEO+,” effectively splits the CEO function among four top executives: former sole CEO Fred Cook, as well as Jonathan Hughes, Matt Neale and Gary Rudnick.

Golin will continue to have a single chairman, Cook, who will also continue his role as director of the USC Center for Public Relations at the Annenberg School. He will be responsible for maintaining key client relationships.

Al Golin will continue in his role as founder of the 60-year-old agency and Ellen Ryan Mardiks will continue in her role as vice chairman.

The three new CEO+’s will divide the rest of the agency’s leadership roles, and will report to IPG CFO Frank Mergenthaler.

The new structure, which goes into effect Jan. 1, 2017, comes as Golin is remaking itself into more of a full-service and integrated offering, highlighted by the recent acquisition of The Brooklyn Brothers, a New York-based creative agency known for its emphasis on content marketing.
