Time Inc. Names Leslie Yazel 'Real Simple' EIC

Time Inc. has appointed Leslie Yazel as editor-in-chief of Real Simple. She is replacing Kristin van Ogtrop, who announced she was leaving the brand in August after serving as its editor since 2003.

Beginning October 17, Yazel will oversee the content and editorial operations of Real Simple. Yazel is the publication's third editor in its 16-year history; Van Ogtrop was one of the longest-serving editor-in-chiefs at a Time Inc. title.

Yazel was previously director of editorial content at Cosmopolitan.

Real Simple's executive editor Sarah Collins was filling in as its interim editor. She will also leave the brand once Yazel has transitioned into the editor role.

Yazel called this an “exciting and transformative time” for Real Simple and she hopes to take “advantage of all our platforms to expand the brand’s passionate and dedicated audience.”

"We can be doing even more in digital,” she told Adweek.

Yazel has been at Cosmopolitan since 2014. Before that, she was a deputy editor of The Wall Street Journal, where she directed print and digital content and design of the Personal Journal section.

She has also served in editorial roles at magazines including Redbook, Seventeen, Glamour and Maxim.
