Email Privacy Act Supporters To Focus On Importance Of Targeting Criminals When Reading Emails

Congress will use security as an argument to getting more privacy in email. The Electronic Communications Privacy Act, a bi-partisan bill that will come in front of Congress in the next several weeks, will update the 1986 email which currently governs the government's ability to spy on citizen's emails. Supporters will argue that scanning the emails of all Americans is too time consuming and generates too many misfires. Instead, government should respect privacy and get a warrant to access the emails of people under investigation, the argument goes.
