Yup, Kardashian Jewel Thieves Tracked Her On Social Media

So it turns out posting tons of close-up pictures of a $5 million diamond on social media, and telling everyone exactly where they can find it, is not actually a good idea.

This shocking fact was confirmed this week when French police released excerpts of their interrogation of Aomar Ait Khedache, a member of the armed gang who stole $11 million worth of jewelry, including the aforementioned 20-carat ring, from social media celebrity Kim Kardashian West in Paris back in October.

According to Le Monde, which first published the police reports, the 60-year-old Khedache, known as “le vieux” or “old man,” told police he used social media first to conduct a rough appraisal of Kardashian’s jewels, and then to track her whereabouts in the lead-up to the heist.

Khedache stated: “The jewels were shown on the Internet, and [she said] that she didn’t wear fakes… The time she would arrive in France, you just had to look at the Internet, and you knew everything, absolutely everything.”

He also claimed that Kardashian was betrayed by someone in her entourage, who provided additional details about her whereabouts.

These admissions confirm earlier statements by French police in the immediate aftermath of the robbery, when they conjectured the attackers were looking for “possessions that had been seen and noticed via social media.”

Following the attack, Kardashian took a long (for her) social-media hiatus, but returned to Instagram, her favored platform, in early January.

As for the jewels themselves, Khedache said all the jewelry besides the famous ring had been broken up, melted down and sold off. The ring is much harder to “fence” because it is so recognizable. A total of 17 individuals have been detained in connection with the robbery, but some were subsequently released without charges.
