Google went offline for 15 minutes over the weekend. Yikes. That's like a network going dark. Remember when CBS went dark a few years ago after a sports broadcast?

Google's problem was related to a domain name system glitch. According to online news reports, there was a problem that caused browser look-ups to falter. A Google spokesman told the Associated Press that hacker attacks were not responsible for the blackout.

The episode happened on Saturday night and affected Google's Gmail e-mail service and display ads via AdSense.
