What Millennials Will Be Eating On July 4th

Turns out that Millennials are a lot like everyone else when it comes to how they spend July 4th.

In a poll of hundreds of male and female Millennials conducted earlier this month by influencer marketing platform Crowdtap, 38% reported that they’ll be hosting barbecues, 31% that they’ll be catching up with friends and family, 24% will watch fireworks, and 11% will be chilling in a pool.

Although 41% said that they’ll at least attempt to eat a bit healthier during this year’s celebrations, 22% admitted that they’ll be eating more than usual on the holiday.

And the victuals they plan to consume sound a lot like standard BBQ fare: burgers (cited by 73%), hot dogs (57%), chicken (50%), corn (50%), potatoes (47%), grilled vegetables (39%) and pie (39%).

Same with beverages menu, which will be dominated by soda (72%), beer (60%), lemonade/iced tea (57%), and wine and spirits (33% each).

In shopping for these items, they’ll be most concerned about affordability (59%), convenience (53%) and ingredients (53%), rather than brands (18%).

But being Millennials, they were also very receptive when asked if, hypothetically, they’d like to try exclusive variations on old favorites—like a limited-edition, independence-inspired flavor of ice cream (70% said yes), or a special-edition frozen beverage (61% on board).

They were also asked to come up with their own Independence Day-inspired food and drink ideas. The responses included hard soda that tastes like a Popsicle; apple pie-flavored beer “made with real green apples and cinnamon”; an American flag fruit pizza; and a tequila slushie made with blue coloring.
