BMW Group Acquires Rights To Alpina

The rights to the Alpina trademark were transferred to BMW Group on Jan. 1.

The 2026 BMW Alpina XB7 SUV is currently available for order through authorized BMW dealers. Following BMW's acquisition of the brand, Alpina is transitioning into an in-house performance division, with more models expected to follow the popular, high-performance XB7.

It is produced at the BMW Group factory in Spartanburg, South Carolina. While specialized Alpina components are engineered in Buchloe, Germany, the final assembly for the XB7 take place alongside other BMW X7 models at this U.S. facility.

“Around 600 to 700 vehicles are built at the dedicated ‘SVO (Special Vehicle Ops)’ workshop inside the South Carolina factory,” according to BMW Blog. “The XB7 is produced alongside the regular X7 M60i, though the two are separated by a massive price gap. The Alpina version starts at $157,175 for the 2026 model year, while the BMW-badged alternative costs a relatively more sensible $115,075. That hefty $42,100 difference is roughly equivalent to a 228 xDrive 2 Series Gran Coupe.”

The brand “embodies an exceptional balance of supreme ride comfort and high performance,” according to the German automaker. “The new badge design complements the recently revealed wordmark, collectively defining the brand’s contemporary iconography.”

The new design features the same two significant elements as before — throttle body and crankshaft — central to the historic story of the brand.
BMW Alpina automobiles will be manufactured in select BMW Group plants that have been “comprehensively enabled to meet the high standards expected of this new and exclusive brand,” according to the automaker.

These qualities allow for a range of personalization options, ensuring customers can create personal and distinctive automobiles, if desired. Continuity is assured with the sensitive modernization of signature design elements such as the iconic exterior color palette and 20-spoke alloy wheel design.

“BMW Alpina is a maker of automobiles for connoisseurs who appreciate the exceptional,” according to the automaker.
