Binge viewing remains a major factor among
subscription video-on-demand services.
Hulu says 60% of its viewers watch multiple episodes of a series in one sitting. Some 32% prefer to watch week-to-week, with 8% binging an entire season
or series in a single day.
Hulu also says the once-a-week release of its Emmy-winning drama “The Handmaid’s Tale” had viewers watching episodes quicker than on a traditional
weekly linear TV basis. They viewed about three episodes a week.
Also, 66% of viewing to each new episode occurred within the first three days of availability for the show. Some viewers of
"Handmaid's" were even faster: 30% finished an entire season -- 10 episodes -- in three days; 60% of its viewers completed an entire season in one week.
Hulu says viewing behavior
can grow year-to-year.
Concerning a recent season of “Empire,” 75% of those who watched episodes on a weekly basis did the same the following season -- around 25% of fans
binge-viewed the show.
