Johnsonville To Throw 'Tailgate Wedding' For SEC Fans

To promote its “official sausage” sponsorship, Johnsonville has teamed with the Southeastern Conference to throw a “tailgate wedding” on an SEC campus for the couple who wins a new contest.

The wedding, to be held during next year’s college football season, will take place on campus prior to an SEC football game of the winning couple’s choice.

Johnsonville will make the arrangements and pick up the tab for the venue and a catered, tailgate-style reception (complete with “the world’s largest grill”) for up to 100 guests, and other wedding accoutrements. The couple will also receive $18,500 in cash, and 10 tickets to the game following the wedding.

Tim Tebow — the former Florida Gators and pro football star and Heisman Trophy winner who now serves as an SEC football analyst, as well as a New York Mets outfielder — is helping to promote the contest with a video (below), and will attend the lucky winning couple’s wedding.

Johnsonville says the wedding contest idea stemmed from the knowledge that southern couples often want to avoid being wed during the hot summer season, but struggle to find dates during the fall season that won’t conflict with their friends’ and families’ unwillingness to miss SEC games.

Couples can enter on the contest’s site through May 6. They are asked to share their engagement story, their SEC football fan story and why they deserve the tailgate wedding prize. A panel of Johnsonville employees will choose the winning entry.
