Meredith Corp. is launching a new magazine in collaboration with Lisa Lillen, creator of the Hungry Girl brand. The spring issue of Hungry Girl will be on newsstands January 16 with a $9.99 cover price.
Lillien is the founder of hungry-girl.com, a website and daily email service focused on sharing recipes and information about healthy and light food. The site has nearly 3 million email subscribers and social media followers. Lillien is also the author of 12 cookbooks.
Lillien started her career as a magazine editor; she was editor-in-chief of teen celebrity title Tutti Frutti.
“I'm thrilled to be going back to my roots,” Lillien stated.
Each Hungry Girl issue will contain more than 50 healthy recipes and lifestyle tips and tricks, according to Meredith. Regular columns will include “Hungry Girl How-To,” with step-by-step guides on cooking trends, as well as “Success Stories,” which will profile people who “won their battles with the scale.” “Super Sleuth” addresses “mythbusting and eye-opening information about food and diet facts and fallacies.”
The cover of the debut issue of Hungry Girl teases stories on “healthy and delicious” recipes under 350 calories, five-ingredient slow-cooker recipes, meals to make ahead, and recipes that can be made in coffee mugs.
“Lisa and her team have built a large and engaged audience for the Hungry Girl brand. Her successful books and large digital following provide a great foundation for the launch of a magazine,” stated vice president/group publisher Scott Mortimer.
Meredith has steadily launched new magazines in partnership with existing brands. In October 2016, the publisher launched Magnolia Journal, a quarterly lifestyle magazine produced in collaboration with Joanna and Chip Gaines, the stars of popular HGTV show “Fixer Upper.”
In December of that year, Meredith launched a new magazine based on the Fork Over Knives brand, which originated from a 2011 film documentary championing a plant-based diet.
