Google has put together a checklist of best practices for marketers wanting to create experiments that produce results. Advice points to focusing tests on one variable at a time, designing tests to reach statistical significance, and avoid changing campaigns while experiments run. Pick a metric before tests begin. Each will produce a large amount of data and balancing multiple metrics makes it difficult to pick a winner.
