Penske Acquires SheKnows Media, Broadens Base To Embrace Women's Site

Broadening its portfolio of lifestyle, luxury and industry titles, Penske Media (PMC) has announced the acquisition of SheKnows Media, home to SheKnows.comBlogHerStyleCaster and HelloFlo. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The women’s lifestyle digital media company brings with it 79 million unique visitors (UV) per month, according to comScore’s January 2018 report. The company also boasts more than 300 million social media followers and is ranked in the top five lifestyle brands by comScore.

SheKnows Media will remain a standalone division under the PMC umbrella and continue to focus on content ranging from parenting to health to food. Additionally, Philippe Guelton will remain as CEO and Samantha Skey will stay as president and CRO.

“We expect to find areas of synergies in the fashion/beauty categories (with WWD) and Entertainment (Variety),” Guelton told Publishers Daily. “Our strong live event business (BlogHer) will complement PMC’s significant event activity around [those brands].”

BlogHer is a popular conference series connecting women with brands that cater to them. 

According to Guelton, becoming a part of PMC will allow SheKnows to “invest strategically in key priority areas” and deliver on company goals, while building stronger brands and businesses.

The acquisition delivers greater diversity to PMC’s revenue opportunities, with the addition of packaged goods, healthcare and food and beverage verticals. It also boosts its position as a home for women-focused editorial.

PMC, founded in 2004, acquired a controlling stake in Rolling Stone in 2017. The company is also home to Deadline and IndieWire, among other titles.
