Quartz Launches 'How We'll Win' Newsletter On International Women's Day

This is a moment of reckoning for many, if not all, industries that must learn how to reimagine and embrace the role of women in the workplace. From the Time’s Up initiative came the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund, in support of women who have been sexually harassed across fields. The #MeToo initiative offered a collective moment for victims of abuse to come together online and tell their stories.

As more women speak out, the topic of work place sexism, discrimination and harassment has taken a paramount position.

This year, Quartz Media, a news website owned by Atlantic Media, launched a “year-long exploration of the fight for gender equality” project called “How We’ll Win,” sponsored by JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Mercedes-Benz.

Today, on International Women’s Day, the initiative launches the next phase of the project, a monthly email newsletter to better connect the community being built and recognized through the project. Quartz reporter Leah Fessler will pen the monthly newsletter, which will include an essay centered on the manifestation of sexism at work, a well-curated list of feminist texts and media and a question for the community of “How We’ll Win.”

Recently, the first of four installments from the initiative was released, a series of interviews called “How We’ll Win: Visionaries” that collects the voices of 50 women who are changing the face and future in their specific industries, and opening up possibilities for other women in the process.

Each of the women talks with Fessler, who stated  “Visionaries” was created to "move beyond surface-level women-at-work coverage and provide clear insights into how powerful women overcome daily drudgery, climb the ranks and achieve their goals without losing themselves.”

Guests include Lena Waithe, creator and writer of The Chi, who talks about the importance of diversity in the entertainment industry, Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal (D-Washington) who discusses the possession of power, and writer Lauren Duca, who speaks about the importance of confidence.

The newsletter will also act a resource for updates about upcoming installments of “How We’ll Win.”

“How We’ll Win,” which also features events, is an example of how an important societal moment can be furthered by a media company supporting the voices who need it.
