Streamers Dominate Peabody Awards

The Peabody Awards, which recognize TV shows and films "that shine a light on compelling issues of the day" (according to its website), is fully embracing the streaming video ecosystem.
While shows from Netflix and Amazon have won Peabodys in recent years, this year, streaming services make up a clear majority of the Entertainment, Children’s and
Youth awardees.
Winners include Netflix’s “A Series Of Unfortunate Events,” “American Vandal” and “Hasan Minhaj: Homecoming King," Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale” and Amazon’s “The Marvelous Mr.s Maisel.” When HBO is added to the mix (with HBO Now also among streaming services) “Last Week Tonight” and “Insecure” are added. Only NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and AMC’s “Better Caul Saul” represent linear TV.
The Peabodys are following in the footsteps of the Emmy Awards, which have shifted in recent years from having nominees heavily represented by cable TV to having categories dominated by streaming services. Last year’s top drama category counted a majority of the nominees from streaming services.This year’s Peabody Awards ceremony will be held May 19 in New York, with nominee Minhaj hosting.
