'Culture Trip' Raises $80M In Funding, Plans To Expand Staff, Offerings

Media and tech startup Culture Trip has received $80 million in its Series B funding round, led by investment group PPF.

The London-based culture and travel site, which attracts more than 15 million monthly unique visitors to its site, is using the funding to hire a CMO and CRO with experience at Facebook and YouTube. It also redesigned its logo and color palette.

Culture Trip will also use the funds to expand its engineering and creative teams “to fuel innovation, drive further audience growth and roll out various monetization strategies,” according to the company.

“With this game-changing investment, Culture Trip is focused on improving the current user experience and value proposition, with the aim of building a leading, global consumer brand that will disrupt the media and travel industries through its creative content and tech,” stated Dr. Kris Naudts, founder and CEO of Culture Trip.

New smart tech features, such as wish lists, integrated Google maps and planning tools, are being rolled out on its platform.

Mike Fox, former director of marketing at Facebook, is joining Culture Trip as its CMO.

Dick Soule, who was the first head of global sales at YouTube, is Culture Trip’s new CRO, and will work to expand and diversify the company’s monetization efforts.

Culture Trip also plans to launch an online travel agency later this year, to connect hotels and experience providers with the company’s millennial audience.

Its app -- which it introduced last summer -- has been downloaded nearly 1 million times.
