Instagram Adds Action Buttons, Ups Ability To Do Business

Adding more business-friendly features, Instagram is adding “action buttons” so users can reserve services, get tickets, start orders, or book reservations.

Specifically, the buttons are being placed within Instagram Direct, the network’s direct-messaging platform. Fleshing out the new offering, launch partners include GrubHub, Fandango, Yelp Reservations, OpenTable and Eventbrite.

“As businesses increasingly view Instagram as a place where business gets done, we’re committed to making it easier for them to manage their presence on the platform,” Instagram said in a statement on Monday.

Speaking to the popularity of its messaging platform, Instagram says more than 150 million users have conversations with businesses via Direct each month.

Also of note, one-third of those messages begin with an Instagram Story, according to the Facebook unit.

For Instagram, adding actions buttons is part of a broader effort to appeal to businesses -- and make more money. Among other efforts, Instagram just recently began rolling out a native payment feature.

Additional launch partners include Acuity, Atom Tickets, Booksy, ChowNow, Eatstreet, MyTime, Reserve, Restorando, Resy, SevenRooms, StyleSeat, and Tock.

Businesses planning to launch action buttons in the near future include Appointy, Genbook, LaFourchette, Mindbody, Schedulicity, SetMore, Shedul and Vagaro.
