Kalmbach Brings Spain's AK-Interactive 'Damaged' To North America

Enthusiast media publisher Kalmbach Media will bring modeling magazine Damaged, Weathered & Worn Models to North America, through a partnership with Spain-based AK-Interactive, an international hobby modeling and media company.

Kalmbach Media publishes titles FineScale Modeler, Scale Auto, Model Railroader, Trains and Discover, among others.

The partnership with Damaged owner AK-Interactive means Kalmbach will oversee all domestic production and distribution of the magazine in North America.

Kalmbach will publish four quarterly issues of Damaged, beginning in November.

Damaged was previously available overseas — and printed in English — with a limited presence in the U.S., a Kalmbach spokesperson told Publishers Daily.

The 80-page magazine will have a cover price of $9.99. It will be distributed where Kalmbach’s FineScale Modeler is sold —newsstands and in hobby shops — as well as directly to consumers through Kalmbach’s ecommerce site.

The media company will develop a digital presence for Damaged. Currently, the plan is to house Damaged content on FineScale Modeler’s website, the spokesperson said.

Kalmbach will promote Damaged and AK-Interactive products across its print and digital platforms, too. The company’s ad sales team will oversee sales of advertising and sponsorship for Damaged’s print and digital channels.

Editorial content of Damaged will continue to be created primarily under AK-Interactive, “although there may be some instances where we choose to swap out a story or make some minor stylistic changes,” the spokesperson said. That's to ensure editorial connects with a North American audience.

Kalmbach claims its digital media websites and other platforms across its brands reach more than 35 million consumers, and its magazines reach more than 1 million consumers.
