Digital, millennial-focused outlet Refinery29 and Neon, the studio behind movies like “I, Tonya” and “Three Identical Strangers,” will find, purchase and co-distribute films, specifically ones starring women and supporting female filmmakers.
Amy Emmerich, Refinery29’s Chief Content Officer, stated the site wants to “expand our storytelling and experiential offerings and make our mark on the feature film business,”
Refinery29 will provide funding and seek out projects that align with its brand, which has increasingly turned its attentions to video. Till now, it was focused on digital production.
At its NewFront presentation in May, Refinery29 announced plans to launch a dedicated over-the-top streaming channel called Channel29 in the fourth quarter.
