Trump Proposes New Global TV Network To Compete With CNN

In a few Monday tweets, President Trump suggested the U.S. should start its own global TV news network to compete with the CNN.
“While CNN doesn’t do great in the United States based on ratings, outside of the U.S., they have very little competition,” said a Trump tweet. “Throughout the world, CNN has a powerful voice portraying the United States in an unfair ... and false way.”
He added: “Something has to be done, including the possibility of the United States starting our own Worldwide Network to show the World the way we really are, GREAT!”
The U.S. is already in this kind of news business in part. Voice of America is a U.S. government funded TV/radio broadcast group established in 1942. Part of the VOA charter is that “news will be accurate, objective, and comprehensive.. [And that] the VOA will represent America, not any single segment of American society, and will therefore present a balanced and comprehensive projection of significant American thought and institutions.”

Trump has long complained about CNN, targeting the network -- and other news networks -- as distributing “fake news” when it airs information he dislikes.
Earlier this month, the Trump administration took away the press pass -- the so-called “hard pass” -- of CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta. This came after a heated exchange with Trump through a number of questions by Acosta during a recent press conference.
A few days later a federal judge granted CNN's request for a court order temporarily reinstating Acosta's White House press pass.

Acosta accosted a female intern. He should have MORE than his press pass revoked for that, regardless of what a sympathetic, left-leaning judge might reinstate.
An intern assigned to bring the microphone to the next journalist that was up "to ask the next question." Equitable, and fair. But Acosta wanted to grandstand, and drive home his frivolously semantic word parsing that a large, unvetted contingent making its way north to illegally press their way into our country shouldn't be considered "an assault" on our country. Never mind that half the country believed it most certainly did represent and "assault" while hundreds of miles away. Now, no longer hundreds of miles away, BUT AT OUR BORDER, the mob of thousands is getting violent. They will not, and should not be allowed to cross unless they file for asylum LEGALLY, are vetted for validity, and criminality. Now, Acosta just looks stupid, and vapidly leftist. Just because our inefficient, ineffectual, and inept government have allowed illegals to flout our laws in the past DOES NOT MEAN that we should continue to allow illegals to keep LEGAL immigrants from gaining entry through their brazen lawlessness. Re-institute the enforcement of the laws that both sides of the aisle voted on, and agreed to, and let grandstanding journalists like Acosta accost interns no more.
Friedman writes that Trump dislikes the dissemination of falsehoods. We should all DISLIKE the biased dissemination of falsehoods like those put forth by the Acostas of our world. They are, by definition, FAKE as Trump claims they are. Falsehoods are fake.
And when thousands gather to make their way north to force their way illegally into our country, and in so doing, deny entry to immigrants that are filing for asylum, and attempting to enter legally as our laws lay out, yes! That is an assault. To deny that truth only proves ignorance on the part of Acosta the accoster.
Who would fund this new network----the U.S. tax payers? And who would be the "editor in chief"----Trump? Incredible!

Funny, really, that a silly tweet could send all the twits atwitter. Trump, insolent buffoon that he is, is quite the puppeteer.
First, the idea that US taxpayers might fund a "new network" is a socialist one, Ed. We all know, from other silly Trump tweets, what the Donald thinks about Bernie, and socialism.
The only thing truly "terrifying" about this fake news, Eric, is the left's ongoing propagation of liberal, "socialistic" policies (all proven failures historically). Under socialism, this fake news could become unfake news in a heartbeat. With capitalism, not a snowball's chance in hell. But some people will still falsely act ignorantly "terrified."
That said, after Trump's eight years are up (keep it up, left... you're virtually guaranteeing he gets re-elected with all your hypocritical outrage, and apoplexy), I can definitely see him riding herd over a new network that he would fund, start up, and run.
Under capitalism, that's called competition. And I'm betting that Trump could make a successful go at it if he chose to...
I was under the impression that CNN was set up by Ted Turner and owned by Turner Broadcasting System. Last time I looked both were American.

From outside of the US bubble, CNN is globally respected. But clearly from inside that bubble there are some with different opinions. So when it comes to 'trust' it would be a lay down misere globally.
