Former IPG CEO Philip Geier Dies At 84

Philip H. Geier Jr., former Chairman-CEO of The Interpublic Group of Companies, died June 19 at the age of 84.

Geier started his career with McCann-Ericson in 1958. He was named vice chairman of parent company IPG in 1975, president two years later and CEO in 1980.

He retired in from IPG in 2000 and launched Geier Group, a consulting company, with his daughter, Hope Geier Smith, who has served as managing partner.

Geier was chairman of the Ad Council in the 1990s and was inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame in 2003.
