'Variety' Launches Daily Video Show

Variety released the first episode of its new daily video series on Friday.

Called “Daily Variety,” the show is hosted by Audrey Cleo Yap. It features breaking entertainment news and analysis from Variety’s staff, as well as interviews with people from the industry, according to the publisher.

“Daily Variety” will also have recurring segments, such as trends around each major awards show.

Stuart Oldham, editor of Variety.com, said the show will bring Variety’s coverage “to younger audiences in a smart, accessible way.”

He called “Daily Variety” “just the beginning of our digital video initiative aimed at telling original, diverse and compelling stories about an entertainment industry that's synonymous with our brand."

The first clip of “Daily Variety” centered on Yap and Variety senior TV writer Elaine Low discussing the #PayUpHollywood movement. Assistants in the movie and TV industries took to Twitter and other social platforms to demand better wages and working conditions.

The show’s video clips and segments will be distributed across Variety's digital channels, in addition to syndication partner sites like Yahoo, MSN and Reuters.

Production will be headquartered at Variety's new video studio in Los Angeles. Additional coverage will be shot out of the company's New York bureau.

New York Post’s gossip column Page Six tried its hand at a daily syndicated TV show about entertainment news in 2017. It ended after its second season.
