TAG Taps Citigroup Vet To Head Threat Intelligence Program

The ad industry's Trustworthy Accountability Group has tapped Citigroup vet Danielle Meah to serve as Director of Threat Intelligence.

She will lead TAG's “threat exchange” initiative, which aims to allow members to share real-time information about malware and other security threats affecting digital advertisers.

Meah previously served as Global Head of Threat Intelligence for Citigroup. She has also worked for the U.S. China Economic and Security Review Commission as a cyber threat analyst.

TAG began testing its threat exchange program about two years ago, when it first rolled out a platform built by TruStar that allows companies to exchange information about malware, fraud attacks and other similar matters.

TAG CEO Mike Zaneis says “dozens” of the organization's members are now using the platform daily, to communicate about threats.

He adds that participants offer information about malvertising they have seen, including information that can identify the companies serving malware-laden ads, and examples of the ads themselves. Others on the exchange are able to draw on that information to filter out potentially harmful ads.

TAG also released a white paper examining the current state of malvertising, and the organization's broad recommendations for combatting malware in ads.

Citing research by the Media Trust, TAG said in the white paper that malware incidents increased by an average of 18% since the middle of March, when web traffic spiked due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
