
Whembley Sewell has been promoted to editor-in-chief of
Them, Condé Nast’s LGBTQ+ focused brand.
Sewell has served as Them's executive editor since January 2019, after the
exit of Phillip Picardi, its founder-Chief Content Officer. She will continue to lead and expand the brand’s creation of content by and for the queer community.

community has always influenced and defined culture,” Sewell stated. “It's an honor to lead the team at Them. as we continue to amplify the LGBTQ+ voices and stories that are
shaping the future of our world for the better."

Sewell also serves in an advisory role at Condé Nast, working to bring LGBTQ+ leaders, talent and issues to the
forefront.
Sewell joined Condé Nast in January 2017 as channel manager at Teen Vogue. Previously, she worked as a social-media editor at Hearst and supported social media and
digital content strategy for Refinery29.
Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue, U.S. artistic director and global content advisor at Condé Nast, complimented
Sewell's "tremendous job" growing Them's platform.
“I look forward to seeing how she continues to lead the brand forward as editor-in-chief," she added.
April, May and June 2020 were some of Them’s highest traffic months.
April and May 2020 unique visitors were up 137% year-over-year, while June 2020
uniques were up 74%.
