The Washington Post Press Freedom Partnership has launched
another campaign calling for the safe release of American journalist and Marine veteran Austin Tice.
Tice, an American freelance journalist, was detained while reporting in Syria more than eight
years ago.
The Washington Post will distribute free bracelets with the hashtag #FreeAustinTice to lawmakers, government officials, members of the media and anyone who wants to
show their support for Tice's release.
Anyone who wants a bracelet can request one via this form by 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, December 9.

“We can think of no better time than the holiday season, when families traditionally
gather together, to call attention to one family who will not be with their son for an eighth Christmas,” stated Fred Ryan, publisher-CEO of The Washington Post.
“We hope that by giving Austin’s case a more visible presence, we’ll see movement on his return.”
An ongoing campaign calling for Tice's release
debuted in
August by The Washington Post Press Freedom. It includes recurring, full-page ads in The Washington Post’s print edition, and digital ads across other platforms.
Another ad for the seven-year anniversary of Tice’s capture ran in WaPo last year, and another coincided with this year’s World Press Freedom Day in May.
Established
in November 2018, The Washington Post Press Freedom Partnership is a public-service initiative from WaPo to promote press freedom worldwide.
