Mailchimp Blocks Pro-Gun Lobby Group's Email: Report

Yet another tech company is blocking content that it deems inappropriate.

Mailchimp has suspended the account of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, a pro-gun lobbying group, claiming "a possible policy violation," the league’s president wrote in an email on Wednesday night.

The company blocked an alert from the group about Lobby Day, an annual rally at the state Capitol in support of gun rights, Philip Van Cleave, president of the Virginia Citizens Defense League, reported to the league’s mailing list, according to Rappahannock News.

Van Cleave reportedly wrote: "After careful review, we can’t find any policy that was broken (other than being pro-rights)," the report continues.

Mailchimp had not responded to a request for confirmation at deadline.

If this is true as reported, the action is one of a wave of suspensions and cancellations that have occurred in digital media following the takeover of the U.S. Capitol by pro-Trump groups on January 6.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Salesforce is preventing the Republican National Committee from sending fund-raising emails that claim the Presidential election was fraudulent or use language that could provoke violence.

The RNC had sent hundreds emails through ExactTarget, the email marketing vendor owned by Salesforce, saying that the Democrats had stolen the election and that it had to be overturned by Congress, according to CBSN SF Bay Area.
