NBCU Has Laid Off 130 So Far In 2021

NBCUniversal has laid off 130 employees in the Los Angeles area since the start of this year, according to California State filings.

That’s in addition to the approximately 300 staff laid off last year, reports WWD, which could not reach an NBCU representative to ask about the latest layoffs or whether there might be more during 2021.

As reported in MediaPost, about 50 layoffs occurred in early February, when NBCU, as part of its strategic shift to focusing on streaming, finalized a new entertainment structure under Susan Rovner.

Most of the layoffs to date this year have been within the company’s linear TV production, with some in film production and a few in news, according to WWD sources. No New York-based employees have been affected this year, according to the report.
