Hotels.com Launches Tax Season Promotion

Hotels.com is launching a tax season promotion giving consumers a chance to win money for a long-overdue getaway.

While Americans are gearing up to fill out tax forms, many are also dreaming what they will use their tax return funds on — 67% of Americans are already planning their summer trips and 85% of people are planning to use some of their tax refund on travel.

Consumers can visit hotels.com/writeoff2020 through April 15 — the original tax-filing deadline day — to fill out an itemized “non-travel” tax form as part of "The 2020 Tax Write-Off.”

The form calculates pandemic-related "expenses" like the number of takeout boxes accumulated, hours lost scrolling on TikTok, video conference calls attended and pounds of sourdough consumed in 2020.

Consumers can “write off” all those “only in 2020” purchases/activities for the chance to receive $2,741 (the average tax refund last year) for a getaway. Entrants are asked to post their travel dreams on social media using the hashtag #HotelLife.

Ten travelers will receive the payout of Hotels.com credit (with no expiration) for their return to travel.

Some travelers can’t wait: 40% have already booked 2021 travel. A luxury city penthouse (45%) and beachfront property (38%) are the two most desired bookings for future travel plans, per Hotels.com.

Price (31%) and flexible booking (26%) are the most important factors to Americans in booking 2021 travel, per OnePoll, which surveyed 1,000 respondents across the United States in March.
