Ford Hires Amazon Exec As First Chief Privacy Officer

Ford Motor Co. has selected an Amazon executive as its first chief privacy officer.

Rebecca Pagani, who joins Ford July 12, illustrates Ford’s commitment to staying ahead in protecting and employing customer and company data, according to the automaker.

Pagani’s responsibilities will include chairing an executive board that sets policies for responsible use of data.

An online post seeking candidates for her position said the executive will lead Ford’s global corporate privacy program across all business units.

Her other duties will include validating, monitoring and continually improving controls to protect data from unauthorized access and use while ensuring efficient access for proper uses.

Pagani will also work with Ford’s communications team to articulate Ford’s privacy principles both internally and externally in a consumer-centric way, including with regulators.

As a senior corporate counsel at Amazon since November 2015, Pagani advised on issues and policy related to ecommerce, cloud computing, digital streaming and artificial intelligence businesses.

She also led Amazon’s digital cybercrime program and helped formulate Amazon’s information security policies across all of the company’s business lines, and helped guide the company’s long-term strategy for protecting customer information.

At Ford, Pagani will report to former U.S. federal lawyer Steven Croley, who become the automaker’s chief policy officer and general counsel, also on July 12.

Both hires come as the company continues to ramp up its capabilities and influence around the globe in rapidly evolving areas like connectivity, electric vehicles and digital services, according to the automaker.

Pagani’s LinkedIn profile indicates that publishing and staying abreast of trends has been a priority in her career. She posts that she enjoys "creating new strategies to improve my client's condition and help customers. I'm a builder. I enjoy creating, operationalizing, and leading high functioning teams.”
