Netflix Leads Emmy Noms At 129, Disney Grabs Most For Media Company, 146

Helping to market streaming services TV-movie content with Emmy award recognition -- streaming, traditional and otherwise -- Netflix posted the best results when it came to an individual network/platform, with 129 Emmy nominations.

Second place is a bit murky.

On a network/platform basis -- that’s HBO at 94. Closelyassociated sister streaming platform, HBO Max, is at 36. Overall, that puts the WarnerMedia HBO brand just a notch above arch rival Netflix -- 130 to 129. Adding in CNN, Adult Swim and TBS noms, puts WarnerMedia overall at 138.

On a company-wide basis, Walt Disney is tops with 146 nominations, with the most going to its premium streamer, Disney+ with 71. Other Disney channels: Hulu earning 25; ABC, 23; FX Networks, 16; National Geographic, 10; and Freeform, 1.

Further down the list, NBCUniversal had 56 nominations -- 46 for the NBC Television Network, two for streaming service Peacock, and eight for Bravo.

ViacomCBS was two awards behind NBCU's collective take -- at 54. CBS had 26; VH1, 11; Paramount+ and Showtime, each with six; Comedy Central, three; Paramount Network and Pluto each with one.

Other TV network/media groups: Apple TV+, 35; Amazon Prime Video, 18; Roku, eight (for Quibi); Fox Television Network, seven; Discovery Networks, five; YouTube, five; A+E Networks, four; PBS and Facebook, each with three; AMC Networks and WelcomeTotheBlumHouse.com each with one.

Most nominations per TV series: Netflix’s “The Crown,” 24; Disney+ “The Mandalorian,” 24; Disney+’s “WandaVision,” 23; Hulu “The Handmaid’s Tale," 21; and Apple TV+'s “Ted Lasso” at 20.

Next group: HBO’s “Lovecraft County,” 18; Netflix’s “The Queen’s Gambit,” 18; HBO Max’s “Mare of Easttown,” 16; HBO Max’s “Hacks,” 15; Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” 12; and Disney+ “Hamilton,” 12.

TV networks/platform, especially Netflix and HBO in recent years, used nominations and awards wins for TV series and movies to market to new subscribers.

“The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards” will air on CBS/Paramount+ on September 19.
