
Major U.S. dailies continue to add to their email newsletter
portfolios.
The Washington Post Opinions will launch The Checkup With Dr. Wen on Thursday. Theweekly is anchored by Dr. Leana Wen, an emergency physician and
contributing WaPo opinion columnist.
The newsletter will address urgent health issues, including next steps with the Delta variant, whether booster shots are needed and hos parents
can keep children safe as they return to school.
In addition, the e-letter will include a Q&A section.
“Dr. Wen has become one of our most popular contributors because
of her authoritative guidance throughout the coronavirus pandemic,” states Fred Hiatt, editorial page editor for WaPo. “As we enter a new phase of the pandemic, we will now
deliver Dr. Wen’s expertise on navigating this ever-evolving challenge direct to readers’ inboxes.”

Wen is a visiting professor of health policy and management at the George
Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health, a nonresident senior fellow at the Brookings Institution and author of the book "Lifelines: A Doctor's Journey in the Fight for the
Public's Health." She previously served as Baltimore’s health commissioner.
Separately, The New York Times announced last week it was adding seven new email newsletters — for pay — and that 11 existing titles
would also now be for subscribers only. Many of the new titles feature experts in politics, culture and technology.
