AMC Networks Names Christina Spade CEO

AMC Networks has named Christina Spade CEO, effective Sept. 9.

Spade joined AMC Networks as executive vice president and CFO in January 2021, and was promoted to CFO and COO in November.

Prior to AMC Networks, she was executive vice president and CFO of ViacomCBS, and before that held the same role at CBS Corp. She joined CBS from Showtime Networks.

Spade succeeds Matt Blank, who has been serving as interim CEO of AMC Networks since last September, and will continue in a consulting capacity through the end of this year.

AMC Networks also announced the hiring of Patrick O’Connell to fill the EVP, CFO role, reporting to Spade.

O’Connell comes from consumer ecommerce company Branded, where he led strategic planning, financing and acquisitions. Previously, he served as EVP, head of corporate development at CBS Corp.

AMC is home of cable hits including “Better Call Saul” and the “Walking Dead” franchise, with the latest spinoff an anthology series dubbed “Tales of the Walking Dead,” set to launch on Aug. 14.

Blank has been focused on driving growth for AMC Networks’ streaming business. In total, its AMC+ and other streamers, including Acorn TV, Sundance Now, Shudder, AllBlk and HIDIVE, gained 1.3 million subscribers in Q2, to reach 10.8 million. The company has targeted 20 million to 25 million subscribers by 2025.
