Grift aside, the email did not explain why it was the first time a federal judge issued a search warrant to raid a former president's home or what the probable cause that was the basis for it.

It also did not try to explain why he also is the first president to be impeached twice.

Or why he is the first president to be the subject of so many criminal investigations.

He also left out the fact that he was also the subject of an FBI investigation when he was a candidate running for office, and that his own Justice Department conducted a 22-month investigation that resulted in 34 indictments, including key members of his campaign team, for colluding with Russia to disrupt the 2016 U.S. presidential election that made him president in the first place.

He also left out the fact that the investigation -- The Mueller Report -- included 14 criminal investigations that were referred to other federal investigators, including 12 of which were completed redacted from the report.

He also left out that the investigation could not recommend criminal charges for him as a then-sitting president, because of a Justice Department legal precedent.

But all of this is important to keep in mind when analyzing the current news cycle surrounding the FBI's raid in order to put it into the proper context: Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before, because we've never had one involved in so much criminal activity.

I understand some of the reasons his supporters still support him, contribute to his fundraising emails, and would probably vote for him again. I don't understand why they want to place him above the law when there is ample evidence of probable cause that he committed crimes, including some that might threaten our national security.

The former president who is the subject of all those investigations is also a master of controlling the news cycle, even without access to Twitter, Facebook or other mainstream social media platforms he has used so deftly in the past to, well, change the subject, punch back and turn those investigating him into those who should be investigated. At least in the minds of his supporters.

According to ongoing tracking by Ipsos political polling expert Chris Jackson, the news cycle changed almost every day -- sometimes mid-sentence or even mid-tweet -- during the former president's reign.

He's just that good at changing the subject, fooling some of the people all of the time, or getting them to part with their wallets.
