Arkansas Paper 'Helena World' Acquires And Will Rename 'Monroe County Herald'

A local newspaper is being acquired--but not by one of the major companies.

Helena World Chronicle LLC, Arkansas-based owner of the Helena World, is acquiring Hayden Taylor Publishing, publisher of the Monroe County Herald.

Helena World’s owners, businessmen Chuck Davis and Andrew Bagley, plan to rename the Monroe County Herald the Monroe County Argus.

This hearkens back to the Brinkley Argus, which was founded in 1883, and the Monroe County Sun, started in 1877.

“Chuck and I have an immense respect for history and wanted to signal to the community that we intend to provide the kind of quality local journalism that those two publications provided for over a century,” states Bagley, who serves as an instructor of political science and history at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas.
