Bloomberg Media Is Gearing Up In DC Prior To Elections

Bloomberg Media is ramping up its Washington, DC-based activities in the run-up to the 2022 midterms elections and the 2024 presidential election. 

Cliff McKinney has been named Bloomberg Media’s director for Washington, DC Corporate & Public Policy. Previously, McKinney served at The Hill and The Washington Post, where he was director of sales for nine years. 

Bloomberg has almost 150 Bloomberg journalists and analysts based in Washington, DC, with 13 journalists having joined the bureau in 2022. 

The new initiatives include: 

  • Live events—In 2023, the Bloomberg Live events unit will launch Bloomberg DC Policy Forward, a summit, that will host more than 300 senior policymakers, public servants, technology leaders and business executives to examine how the government can better solve big problems. In addition, Bloomberg Live will launch Bloomberg Counterpoint, a series of quarterly policy debates joining the public and private sectors. 
  • TV, video, radio--Bloomberg will debut  a new weekly politics show in 2023, designed for a younger, global audience as an alternative to traditional weekend news conversations. The program will air live across Bloomberg TV, Bloomberg TV+ and Bloomberg Quicktake. In addition, Bloomberg TV will host a live Election Night special during the November 2022 midterms, featuring David Westin, Annmarie Hordern, Joe Mathieu and Mario Parker. 
  • Podcasts—Next year Bloomberg will debut a podcast to be hosted by Senior Washington Correspondent Saleha Mohsin. And next month, Bloomberg will launch a new daily podcast, "The Big Take", featuring the best of Bloomberg’s reporting from around the globe. It will be hosted by Wes Kosova, co-produced by iHeartMedia and distributed by the iHeartPodcast Network.
  • Newsletter--Bloomberg will launch a Washington-based newsletter focused on economics and politics. It will build on the success of “Balance of Power,” the current daily global politics newsletter, which reaches more than 250,000 subscribers. 
  • Data-driven analysis--Bloomberg will continue to publish interactive data-driven features like  the Election Risk Index, which tracks which states are most vulnerable to election interference.
