Former GroupM Intel Chief Brian Wieser Forms Consultancy, Launches Newsletter

Former GroupM Global President of Business Intelligence Brian Wieser has hung up his own consulting shingle. Less than a week after officially stepping down at GroupM, the long-time agency forecaster — at GroupM and Interpublic before that – and former Wall Street equities researcher, this morning announced the formation of “Madison & Wall,” which he describes as a “strategic advice and insights” advisory from the “intersection of Madison Avenue and Wall Street.”

He also launched a new newsletter via Substack, raising questions about whether he will in fact continue as co-host of the weekly “This Week Next Week” podcast he co-hosted with GroupM Global Director for Business Intelligence Kate Scott-Dawkins for the past year.

GroupM insiders previously said he would, but last week’s episode was labeled as Wieser’s final one, and his commentary sounded like he was saying goodbye to the podcast.

While Wieser has not responded to an email from MediaPost asking about it, it’s understood that he likely will continue to make guest appearances on the GroupM podcast, but will no longer be a co-host and the podcast will likely be reformatted.

There will be no episode of “This Week Next Week” this week while it is being sorted out.

In the first edition of his new newsletter, Wieser weighs in on the implications of the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust complaint against Google, calling a potential break-up a “positive” for Alphabet and its shareholders.

He also provides a “Think Global, Not Local” commentary about the concentration of the media industry.
