The Ebb And Flow Of Krapopolis' Whole Web3 Thing

Twenty-six months after Fox unveiled plans for, "Krapopolis," a new animated prime-time series it touted as being the first built on a foundation of Web3 technology -- particularly NFTs and the blockchain --  the show finally has a premiere date: Sept. 24.

Scheduling aside, I've paid close attention to the language Fox's press department has included in the eight major releases related to the series it has issued to date, because I wanted to see how much the show leaned in or out of its next-gen technology pitch.

Also, I'm a fan of the show's creator and executive producer, Dan Harmon ("Rick and Morty," "Community), and was curious how the show might eventually incorporate and/or poke fun of Web3 concepts, which the advertising and media industry remains divided over the potential for.

From a press pitch point of view, at least, the language is revealing, with references to NFTs (non-fungible tokens) and the blockchain, peaking in late 2021 and early 2022, and waning ever since.

In fact, Fox's series premiere announcement today has no reference to NFTs and only two references to the blockchain, including "Blockchain Creative Labs," which is the name of the Fox unit that will operate the "extended digital fan experience, marking network television’s first animated series to be curated on the blockchain."

Interestingly, with the exception of Fox's March 7, 2022 SXSW-related press release, which referenced the series "Web3" innovations 14 times, only the last two releases include that word.
