Spring is just around the corner, which means the annual White House Easter Egg roll is near at hand as well. 

But it’s a tradition that the People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals hopes to transform into a vegan celebration. 

The grass roots group has launched a social campaign in support of its formal request to First Lady Jill Biden to swap potatoes for eggs at the annual affair, which this year is set for April 1. 

PETA has documented what many would agree are the pretty inhumane conditions used in the egg production industry. 

And using potatoes at the event would not only promote a vegan diet, which PETA would love to see universally adopted, but also support potato farmers, who produce the most popular vegetable in the country. 

“Promoting healthy, nutritious animal-free foods would also speak volumes about Dr. Biden’s efforts to improve research into women’s health.,” PETA asserts. “Studies have shown that going vegan can reduce the risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer.”
