Pringles' Upcoming Mingles Line Loses The Can

For better or worse, Pringles’ brand is inextricably tied to that not-always convenient tubular can. Pringles even focused a series of comical Super Bowl ads around fans getting their hands permanently stuck reaching for the last chip.

Now, the brand is popping out of the packaging with the upcoming launch of Pringles Mingles, a puffy snack sold in bags -- not cans.

The new line will be released nationally this October, according to the brand’s official announcement, which describes Mingles as “crispy on the outside and light and airy on the inside,” with a bite-sized, bow-tie shape inspired by the brand’s mascot (who took center stage in its Super Bowl campaign this year). It also features distinctive flavor combinations in each variety, thus the “mingles” name: Cheddar & Sour Cream, Sharpe White Cheddar & Ranch, and Dill Pickle & Ranch.

Pringles Mingles isn’t the first time the brand has ventured outside the canister, as the brand released a line of baked wheat cracker sticks called Pringles Stix in 2013, retiring the variety about a half decade later.

“Our iconic Pringles can is part of our identity — and it's not going anywhere — but we're always looking for new ways to innovate and satisfy our fans' latest cravings," Pringles U.S. marketing lead Mauricio Jenkins said in a statement, adding that Mingles' "easy-to-share packaging” also made it more convenient for on-the-go snacking.

In its announcement of the news, the brand said it would share further information on its website and social channels, but for now seems to be letting the news spread organically.

Pringles also recently partnered with Morningstar Farms on the release of a MorningStar Farms Vegan “Chik'n Fries product seasoned with Pringles Original Flavor to create a crunchy exterior.
