Condé Nast has warned Perplexity, an AI-powered search engine startup, to stop using content from its publications.
The publisher sent a cease-and-desist letter on Monday,
accusing Perplexity of plagiarism, according to The Information. There had been no response at deadline.
This comes mere weeks after Perplexity said it will start a
revenue-sharing program with web publishers next month. That announcement was made during the VB Transform event, according to Venture Beat.
“It’s the first of
its kind revenue share program where if they are contributing a source input for an answer, and we’re monetizing that answer with advertising, we’re going share that revenue with those
publishers that contributed to that,” said Dmitry Shevelenko, chief business officer, Venture Beat reports.
However, Wired alleges that Perplexity’s web
crawlers can foil robots that can block content scraping.
Meanwhile, in other Condé Nast news, Bhavna Lalchandani has been named the chief content and innovation strategy
officer of Condé Nast. She will oversee content strategies and solutions for the Condé Nast publication roster.
In addition, Deborah Joseph is leaving her post as
Glamour UK’s European editorial director, according to WWD.
