KFC Lulls Fans To Sleep With Sounds Of Frying Chicken

Many of us use electronics or apps that emit white noise, sounds of spring rain or a babbling creek to help us fall asleep. KFC is hoping the crispy sounds of “Kentucky Fried Chicken Rain” will soon be added to tired fans’ sleep soundtracks.

Today the chicken chain announced its collaboration with Hatch, a company that creates sleep audio content. The result is the new “Kentucky Fried Chicken Rain” content channel, available on Restore 2 smart sleep devices with a Hatch+ premium content subscription. Fans can also find the sound on the Hatch for Sleep and KFC YouTube channels as well as the Hatch for Sleep Spotify page.

The inspiration for the sleepy content comes from recent internet rumors that the sound of falling rain is actually the same as that of frying chicken. To “investigate,” Hatch filmed a visit to KFC's headquarters in behind-the-scenes mockumentary style to “capture the real sound of fried chicken.” The sounds of the new Original Recipe Tenders frying were recorded -- and yes, they sound EXACTLY like falling rain.

"Who knew the sound of … chicken frying could help you fall asleep?" said Catherine Tan-Gillespie, KFC's U.S. chief marketing and development officer in the announcement.

The behind-the-scenes video appears on the KFC’s social channels in addition to YouTube. Co-branded merchandise also supports the collab, including a Hatch x KFC sleep Shirt, available for purchase at KFCShop.com. And KFC Rewards loyalty members receive a discount on the purchase a Hatch Restore 2 device.

"When we kept seeing social media posts about the similarity between frying chicken and rain, we decided to make the absolute best version of that audio" said Eric Pallotta, CMO at Hatch in the announcement. "And who better than … KFC to do it with? We're excited to see our customers' reactions to … fall(ing) asleep to fried chicken right before bed without ever taking a bite."=
